The most important thing to know about sun protection is that you need it. Every day. To protect the face, it is better to choose products with mineral (physical) “blocks” – titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or a combination of both. There are also chemical filters, but some of them can be harmful to the skin – and the environment. The best reputations are avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and octisalate. When combined, they stabilize each other, which ultimately has a beneficial effect on the skin. We recommend choosing antioxidant sunscreens. It happens that sunscreens cause allergies – and a reaction can occur to any component – this is unpredictable and can happen to anyone. This reaction most often occurs on chemical filters. The use of oxybenzone and octinoxate in sunscreens is increasingly banned around the world, as they are very harmful to the environment. If we talk about which type of filters to prefer, then we always advise physical (mineral) – there is less risk that they will cause irritation. Zinc oxide is the best choice. Learning to read sunscreen labels is easy. The problem is that there is no single notation system for them in the world. No abbreviation can guarantee the effectiveness of a product. The best thing to do is to assess the order in which the active ingredients are listed in the ingredient list. The first positions indicate their high concentration.
SPF stands for sun protection factor and determines how many rays are blocked. SPF 30 (minimum) is recommended for daily use – whether in the city or in the mountains. For active time in the sun, we recommend an SPF of 50 or higher. And, of course, it doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy outside or sunny.
It is necessary to apply sun protection every two hours, as well as after each bathing and other activities that could weaken the protection – for example, with active sweating. As a result of proper sun protection, the skin does not burn, pigmentation spots or wrinkles do not appear. It is possible to emphasize the beauty of the skin in summer not so much with the help of tanning as with the help of shimmering products with reflective particles. The best of them not only work as decorative cosmetics, but also moisturize and nourish the skin. The beauty community is always debating how to properly apply sunscreen: before or after makeup, before moisturizing or on top. So, products with mineral filters (we remember this is titanium or zinc dioxide) are applied over the care (serums, moisturizers, and so on), but before makeup. Products with chemical filters can also be applied before moisturizing. The amount of funds required for complete and unconditional protection from the sun can fluctuate – it is commonplace, but true – depending on the shape of the face and body size. It is important to make sure that the product is applied evenly and in sufficient quantity.
It’s important to remember that few foundation products will provide the sun protection you need. So sunscreen is best used in addition to, or instead of, makeup. The science of protecting skin from the sun is evolving. More and more perfect formulations appear: easier to apply, less noticeable, convenient for daily use. The main thing is to find “your” means. This will benefit both the health and freshness of the skin.
