In peacetime, most people live with some confidence in the future. When there is stability, habit, even routine, which allows to some extent stereotypes to think, perceive, react and act according to algorithms.
The stability of the present and the certainty of the future preserves mental energy, allows you to gather strength to make important decisions, to live through complex, sometimes crisis events, which become turning points in life.
It is natural for a person to strive to influence the course of his life, to decide what he would like and how it can be achieved, based on the life circumstances in which the person is. And it is good when these circumstances are predictable, predictable, such that give some clues for decision-making and life plans.
The less stability and certainty, the harder it is to self-determine and plan your life.
There are a number of points that allow you to build a life in the unknown.
Tolerance of uncertainty as a personality trait. People differ in their ability to be tolerant of life situations of uncertainty and the ability to live them adaptively. This ability should be developed. Sometimes it suddenly appears in critical conditions, when there is simply no other way out and you need to react extremely quickly, radically changing your life intentions. It is important to learn to tolerate uncertainty.
Personal acceptance of the situation of uncertainty. Understanding that a person cannot control everything makes him stronger. Awareness that there are events that we do not influence, allows us not to worry about it. Therefore, do not try to calculate everything.
Ability to say “No”. Planning your life is, to some extent, a choice that is always difficult. It is difficult, because when a person says “Yes” to a certain perspective, it means that, automatically, for some other reason, he says “No”. I don’t really want to give up. As a rule, you want everything. Therefore, it is important not to be too greedy in your desires and to understand that there is no right or wrong choice, there is only the choice made and its consequences.
Life is not based on circumstances, but on values. It is difficult to build long-term plans for the future in a situation with many unknowns, but you can live according to their principles, values, meanings. They can identify important things and answer the question: What to do? When? Where? For what? Such values can be people and relationships with them, when all life is subject to the welfare of these people.
The cause for which a person lives can also be personally significant. Circumstances may change, a stable situation may suddenly become completely unpredictable, but fundamental personal principles remain and become the basis on which life plans can be strung. Therefore, we plan our lives based on our own values.
