Once upon a time, it was believed that pigmentation is caused by photoaging of the skin and it occurs only in women 40+. Today, girls of different age categories, starting from 18 years old, face this phenomenon. What is actually the reason for the appearance of age spots?
Candidate of Medical Sciences and a specialist in injection methods of rejuvenation talks about the causes of the appearance and ways to prevent age spots.
Personal experience
I know everything about the pigment: we have passed a thorny path of toxic relationships lasting 10 years and only now have we learned to share everyday life and space with each other. Today I am ready to share everything I know about the reasons for its appearance and methods of treatment. Most likely, a lot will surprise you.
The reasons for the appearance of age spots:
sun rays
genetic predisposition
hormonal disruptions
unfavorable external environment
Why do many people have spots activation in the summer?
Pigmented spots do not form on the surface, but inside the skin and are caused by the enzyme melanin. The same enzyme determines the innate skin color – the more enzyme there is, the darker the human skin. With prolonged exposure to the sun, the production of the enzyme increases, but unevenly, and as a result, stains appear.
How does the external environment influence this process?
Depending on a number of reasons, for example, stress from external factors (from personal relationships to poor ecology) or other disorders, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs in the skin. This pathology develops due to prolonged irritation or inflammation of the skin.
There are several more specific factors contributing to the development of skin inflammatory processes:
Acne, rosacea, eczema, carbuncles, boils, acne.
Various injuries.
Unsuccessful cosmetic procedures (laser, resurfacing, chemical peeling).
Hormonal Disruption and Pigment: Possible?
Yes, and this reason is one of the most serious on the list. For example, hormonal changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy often cause age spots on the face. Sometimes spots appear in the epidermis, that is, in the upper layer of the skin. Such a defect is easy to treat.
How can you lighten the pigmentation or remove it altogether?
I would be lying if I say that modern medicine has learned to completely heal pigment. Even if you manage to remove it with laser peels, no one can guarantee that the spots will not reappear, which most often happens in the summer. However, I have learned to work with their appearance so that the pigment is hardly noticeable to me and others.
Today, many clinics use a full complex treatment of various pigmented skin formations by combining laser and intense pulsed light systems, drug treatment and special-purpose cosmetics for skin whitening.
The most popular method is laser correction. Laser peeling is performed with light waves directed at the pigmented area. Under the influence of laser peeling, the stain gradually brightens and eventually disappears.
