When shoe designer Amina Muaddi swapped her iconic sculptural heels for platform shoes that Paris Hilton could be proud of, the fashion world realized that shoe trends were changing. Previously associated only with the turbulent fashion of the 2000s, platform sandals and mules are once again in the spotlight. Amina’s Lupitas mules instantly became a hit, which the designer herself and many Instagram influencers chose for her look. Available in a soft shade of sorbet, as well as popular retro colors, these shoes are sure to inspire new Y2K accessory purchases. Accessory King Daniel Lee presented his take on the new trend – a hybrid of clogs, mules and wedges as part of his Bottega Veneta Spring / Summer 2021 collection. Lee’s models were shown on the runway along with mini dresses embellished with beaded fringes. Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa were among the first followers – Jenner chose a total look from Bottega Veneta, along with burgundy shoes. Camille Charrière and Bella Hadid opted for Coperni shoes with a platform that looks like they came straight from the 2000s. Bella highlighted the kitsch appeal of the shoes with cropped flared trousers from Susamusa, a bright Jean Paul Gaultier sarong as a top, Chanel sunglasses with rhinestones and cute beaded jewelry from small brand Seally Mimi. Givenchy models from Matthew Williams are no less effective. G-branded mules are made for summer evenings, while Marshmallow slides with rubber soles for a sporty chic.
