We admit that most of us play sports not for health or entertainment, but in order to lose weight or not gain weight. “Why am I exercising, but not losing weight?” – a very common question for our coaches. There may be several reasons.
The first reason is unhealthy diet
We write a lot and say that nutrition in losing weight is much more important than physical activity, which is more likely to be responsible for the quality of a lost body than for lost pounds. Moreover, it is important not only what you eat, but also in what quantities and when exactly. There are several pitfalls here.
One of them is the feeling that since you expend calories in training, you can eat more. Make sure not to overeat. Just add another post-workout snack to your diet. Second, watch the composition of your food. Fast food and soda are not allowed even for those who spend their time in the hall from morning till night. The diet should be balanced, correctly distributed in time and in the size of portions and … constant! Accept that proper nutrition is forever, and do not indulge yourself.
The second reason is inadequate assessment of the results.
If you follow the results only by weighing, then you are missing out on half of them. In connection with the transition to a sports regime, the body begins to change, the muscles that are heavier grow, and the fat that is lighter melts. As a result, a large number may appear on the scale, which will upset you. In this matter, regular measurement of body volumes will help you a lot. Be sure to keep a table of your measurements, and you will see how easily the body responds to loads, giving up extra centimeters.
The third reason – the selected type of load does not suit you
Perhaps you have chosen too light loads, for example, doing only aerobics or fitness yoga. Or maybe, on the contrary, they are too heavy – you disappear in the gym 5 days a week, and then you collapse from overwork. In this case, your classes are irregular and the result is long in coming.
The ideal option is to choose the right workout for yourself with a trainer who will correctly assess your physical form, body condition and response to different types of workloads, and will help you draw up a workout program and a nutrition plan.
It can also happen that when you start exercising, you start saving energy the rest of the day. Should not be doing that. Let your day remain as mobile and active as possible – it always benefits the figure!
